Getting there
Musanze is situated in the Northern Province of Rwanda and lies near the twin lakes of Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo and is the gateway city to Volcanoes National Park and the famous mountain gorillas in the north-western part of the country.
It takes approximately 1h 20min to drive from Kigali to Musanze. The city is reached by public transport. There are two options to arrive at Musanze: by bus or taxi. There are several express buses that take passengers from Kigali. However, you will need to take a taxi or a moto bike from Kigali airport to the bus station in Nyabugogo. You can also take a taxi from Kigali to Musanze.
Conference organisers will also arrange transport from Kigali to Musanze for conference participants. Big buses will be rented to take participants in groups from Kigali to Musanze. Departure from Kigali to Musanze will depend on the arrival of participants. Please, contact us if you want to use this service.
Getting around
Musanze is very small, and everything is reachable by foot. It has a good public transport system. You can reach different places by public transport, by bike, or on foot.
On foot: Musanze is easily explorable on foot. You can always jump on a moto-taxi if you are getting tired.
By taxi: you can catch a normal communal taxi or take it individually.
By motorbike: Most of the time the motorcyclists will call you. If not, just whistle or call it.
What to do & see
Musanze is the most visited metropolitan area in Rwanda due to its tourist attractions. Musanze is the capital and most important town in the Northern province of Rwanda. The old name was Ruhengeri but has now been changed. It is the closest city to the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and because of that, offers great views of the Virunga volcanoes.
