Business track
On Thursday 25 October a business track was organised to stimulate the application of the ecosystem services concept in business activity by encouraging dialogue between business representatives and researchers. This one day event was part of the ESP conference and consisted of several program elements aimed at increasing business-science collaboration, knowledge exchange and corporate action.

Sérgio Talocchi, Sustainability Manager, Natura
Sérgio Talocchi is currently responsible for the environmental management of Natura . His presentation focused his responsibilites, the successes and challenges in relation to ecosystem services.
10:30-12:00 Session
S6a - Ecosystem services in business: from theory to practice, N. L. Hummel, et al.
This session aimed to discuss challenges and lessons learned in the process of perceiving and incorporating ecosystem services into business management. The discussion was initiated by the experiences of the initiative Trends in Ecosystem Services (TeSE) of Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) and was enriched by the practical experiences of Eletropaulo, Copel and Fibria.
13:30-15:00 Session
Operationalising Ecosystem Services for Business Action: Increasing Impact, Unlocking Opportunity and Driving Innovation
This session aimed at improving business-science dialogue, uptake of knowledge and practical application of it. Several business representatives presented an ecosystem services related business case, together with the audience, in Working Groups experiences could be shared after these short presentations.
The objective of this session(s) was:
- Showcase several regional business cases which relate to natural capital and ecosystem services, and understand encountered hurdles within these cases in implementing ecosystem services concept (to be presented by business representatives);
- Showcase of projects of how some researchers have been partnering with the private sector;
- Provide solutions which solve the challenges businesses addressed within their presentation based on natural capital and ecosystem services research; 4. and come up with ideas how to scale up science-business collaboration by identifying concrete projects, unlock opportunities and drive innovation.
Scientists, policy-makers and business representatives were all invited to join the business track activities.
